We will conduct a Bailey Comb change on four hives. The process follows the guidance of the National Bee Unit, and a link can be found to that document on the home page.
The objective is to replace old combs in the brood box, promoting the health of brood at the start of the season, and provide the effective use of the whole area of drawn comb, thus supporting a strong and productive colony.
The session includes building brood frames; inserting foundation; cleaning of existing frames with drawn comb, and thorough cleaning of hive parts. We will also examine the bees and their existing brood to monitor their health and progress.
I look forward to meeting you and taking part in a session, which will be useful many of our members, particularly to new members who can practice essential skills in setting up and managing a hive.
Ken Gallagher - apiary supervisor.
