Wax Wrap Care Information
Wax wraps are intended to replace cling film (plastic) in many situations. Obviously, it can't be used in hot situations, such as in microwaves or conventional ovens. The heat of your hands should be sufficient to mould the wrap over anything you want to cover. It is possible to create an airtight and watertight seal on bowls and plates, but that depends on the ambient temperature and the heat of your hands. If you can't get it to stick, use string to tie it. Wraps can be made into pockets and boxes, which are useful for carrying snacks. The wraps do not take on the smell of the item they are wrapped in. If you find the wraps difficult to use tray a hair dryer on it for a few seconds. If you feel you want to wash your wrap, it should be rinsed in cool water only. Detergents will degrade the wax and limit the life of your wrap. The wraps should last for a long time, but they will become cracky with use. If this happens, place the wrap in baking paper and either iron again, apply a hair dryer for a few seconds or place in a hot oven for a few seconds, until the wax melts and then air dry (as in point 13.) It is possible to refresh wax wraps by re-waxing them with more grated wax. |
