National Honey Monitoring Scheme
Honey Pollen Analysis https://www.bbka.org.uk/news/national-honey-monitoring-scheme If you are interest in finding out what plants your bees are feeding on, then you can use the National Honey Monitoring Scheme. You send samples of your honey to the program and they will then be analysed using advanced DNA barcoding techniques to species of plant pollen present. This is part of a larger research project aimed at using honey bees to monitor long-term changes in the condition and health of the UK countryside. You can read more about this project here, including how to register and how to collect and submit samples. The capacity of the project to analyse samples is dependent on available funds so there is no guarantee that all samples will be analysed. |
