Global Honey Productivity
Thanks for dropping by. Below is a global interactive version of the map that appeared the BBKA News Article 'Bench-marking Beekeeping'. In this chloropleth the honey hot spots are shaded in red, with the colours getting progressively cooler as productivity decreases. To find out the actual values for any country just click on the map. An explanation about the data is below, and the Jupyter Notebook supporting the analysis for both articles is adjacent.

What are the data shown on the map?
The data are simply the sum of honey production over the five year period 2012-16 as recorded on the FAOstat database divided by five to get average annual production over the period, then divided by land surface area as recorded by the World Bank. This gives average annual production of honey per square kilometer, which can be used a a crude measure of productivity.
