This Saturday I will be at the apiary to examine the colonies to establish whether to proceed to stage two of the Bailey Comb Change process. Provided the bees have drawn four or five frames, I will move the queen into the top brood box and place a queen excluder between the two. It is anticipated that in two hives, there will be a bailey board. In this case the usual hive entrance will be blocked, and a new entrance, above the queen excluder, should reduce the amount of food stored in the lower box. I am in the processing of constructing two such boards, which will be rudimentary, but hopefully will do the job.
I will be there at 10am, and I would expect to take no more than an hour. Anyone wishing to attend, will be made very welcome.
