Labelling Machine‘Lot Numbers’ and ‘Best Before’ dates are some of the legal requirements for Retail Sale labelling. The labelling machine will easily attach a small label with your own choice of formats for these. Free of charge to members.

Demonstration Hive
The Demonstration Hive is a full scale British Standard hive with floor, brood box including frames, crown board and roof. A number of frames in the brood box contains pictures with illustration of different stages of brood development, worker bees as well as a marked queen. This is a very good virtual tool to illustrate the structure of a hive including a photographic guide to what can be found on the frames in a brood box. |
You borrow/hire kit at your own risk.
You must know how to use the equipment safely and appropriately - if in doubt ask at the time of collection. You should inspect the kit and satisfy yourself that it is clean, complete and in good working order before accepting. You shall return kit you hire promptly, clean and in good working order to the Equipment Coordinator, unless given instructions otherwise. Extractor hire charges should be paid electronically to the Society's bank account at the time of booking - late payment will incur a £5 surcharge. Late return of extractors following hire period will incur a charge of £10 per day unless you have been told by the Equipment Coordinator to retain the kit. Hire charges are based on the number of days booked using the booking form below. Failure to collect the extractor as instructed by the Equipment Coordinator will not waive the hire charges. Refunds are not given for early return of kit.
Please DO NOT hire kit if you or anyone in your household is either self-isolating or has symptoms of Covid 19 infection.
AFTER collecting the extractor wash your hands and clean all surfaces on the extractor to satisfy yourself that there is no risk of viral contamination. DO NOT use bleach or strongly scented cleaning agents inside the extractor as it may taint your honey. Take care not to get water or cleaning agents in the electric motor or electric cables.
Before returning the extractor and In addition to the normal cleaning, external surfaces (except electrical parts) should also be wiped with disinfectant fluid (Milton fluid or similar). After this step the kit must only be handle using clean gloves to avoid recontamination.
Disinfectant:
WHO recommend using sodium hypochlorite at 0.5% for disinfection of frequently touched surfaces. Most household bleach contains 5% sodium hypochlorite so 1 part bleach needs to be added to 9 parts water to make a 0.5% solution. Milton Fluid contains 1% sodium hypochlorite so needs to be diluted with an equal part of water before use.
